Friends in a digital world
October 20th, 2007Contacting people and shakings hands HAS NOT been replaced. Yes, you can get 1500 MySpace friends and learn that your high school sweeetheart has a Face Book account, but you will never make the impression as quickly or deeply as you do when you grab someones hand, shake it and say “hello”.
In business we are always looking for a way to network and spread our message. Direct mail, advertisement, phone calls, blah blah blah. I have always been a one-to-one type of salesman. Maybe I havent contacted as many people as you did last week in social networking….. but when I talk to them again they have a face to put with my name.
Now, after saying all of this I still lean heavily on the structure of online social networking. It definately has it’s place. Social networking in an invaluable tool for the internet age. How else can you connect with thousands of people instantly? But… if I want someone to know ME, I will always meet them with an outstretched hand and a warm smile.
