Contacting people and shakings hands HAS NOT been replaced.  Yes, you can get 1500 MySpace friends and learn that your high school sweeetheart has a Face Book account, but you will never make the impression as quickly or deeply as you do when you grab someones hand, shake it and say “hello”.

In business we are always looking for a way to network and spread our message.  Direct mail, advertisement, phone calls, blah blah blah.  I have always been a one-to-one type of salesman.  Maybe I havent contacted as many people as you did last week in social networking….. but when I talk to them again they have a face to put with my name.

Now, after saying all of this I still lean heavily on the structure of online social networking.  It definately has it’s place.  Social networking in an invaluable tool for the internet age.  How else can you connect with thousands of people instantly? But… if I want someone to know ME, I will always meet them with an outstretched hand and a warm smile.

What draws people

Watching people wander in and out of a common area here at Converge South today got me thinking…. what is it that draws people?  Whether it is drawing them together, to something, or out into a more social environment….. what is it?

I have watched people talk about clothes, politics, technology, jobs, family, dogs, events….. anything and everything. People inately have a desire to be accepted, we all know that.  This desire spills over into their social interaction and causes the “how are you?” reaction when someone walks by or glances their way.

Now, how does that translate to today?  I want to draw that same attention to my projects… my work… my life.  It’s that good old 3yr. old “look what I’ve got!” that’s in all of us. I know all of you have those same pulls and desires, so while you’re out today take the time to show interest in someone else.  It just might make their day.

Hello world!
